HISTORY: Opened in 1938 in the basement of the Paramount Hotel, the space soon became the famed Diamond Horseshoe nightclub in the 1940s. Later it become a legitimate Broadway theatre, and then a private venue through the 1980’s. It remained mostly closed in the 1990s and 2000s, and reemerged in 2013 after a 20-million-dollar renovation into the theater for the immersive production of “Queen of the Night.” It was then purchased by the Blue Note Group, and reopened as Sony Hall in 2018.

HISTORY: Built originally as in 1904 as the Ballroom to the Prince George Hotel, it was a key fixture in the vibrant Madison Square neighborhood, with prominent guests such as playwright Eugene O’Neill. In 1996, Breaking Ground acquired The Prince George Hotel, and with the help of government agencies and corporate partners, transformed the building into permanent supportive housing for homeless and low-income single adults. In 2005, Breaking Ground completed the restoration of the 5,000 square-foot Prince George Ballroom, and then another extensive restoration in 2015 modernizing the historic space while maintaining its original Neo-Renaissance features.
MISSION: The Prince George Ballroom is owned and operated by Breaking Ground, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit that provides affordable housing for homeless and low income New Yorkers. 100% of net proceeds from ballroom events support this mission."
